PROCESS
The main leather industries are the tanneries, hand made products, the smaller metal parts and the local shop dealers
LABOR
Most of the labor force is immigrants from other states of India or Bangladesh. They are as young as 15 years. Usually its a team of one skilled worker with many laborers
RAW MATERIALS
Due to ban on beef in this state of India, the raw leather is mainly being imported from Southern states of India. However leather from sheep and goat is bought from local slaughter house located around the slum
PRODUCTS
All sorts of leather goods are manufactured here. The wallets can be as cheap as Rs.20/- while a large hand bag can be Rs.200/- depending on the design and quality
REVENUE
A daily worker's average earning per day is around Rs. 300/- They are p[aid on the bases of per product made. The factory owner can earn around Rs. 500/- a day while the shop owner earns around Rs. 2000/- per day depending on sales
PRESENT SCENARIO
The leather industry is losing its market share to the cheaper Chinese products. Most of the shop owners are old. The younger generation is moving towards more higher paid jobs like teaching or engineering
